Jacksonville Landing Turns Green for St. Patrick's Day

Jacksonville Landing Turns Green for St. Patrick's Day

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A leprechaun appeared at the Landing this morning to help get the city ready to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, and he helped turn the water green.

As the holiday had its official launch, the fountain in the courtyard began spewing green water, which will continue through the weekend as events are planned for each day.

At today's launch, the leprechaun read a proclamation, which was drowned out by the nearby bagpiper.

Thursday, bagpipers from Jacksonville Pipes and Drums will roam about the Landing as happy hour gets underway at 4 p.m., featuring, of course, green beer.

Live music takes the stage beginning at 7 and lasting until midnight.

Contests include hourly drawings for cash for anyone wearing green and there will be a green bikini contest at 9 p.m.

A Best Kept Secret: AA Auto Repair

A Best Kept Secret: AA Auto Repair

In November I bought a 1959 Ford pick-up truck from a neighbor, great condition and running, just lacking (albeit very important,) brakes.  I called Mike, owner of AA Auto Repair of Springfield, and he agreed to come and take a look at the truck sitting in the back of my neighbor's yard.  He arrived within 20 minutes, gave some information about the condition of the truck, but wanted to look at it at his shop where he could lift it up and see underneath better.  The owner of the truck (who is also my neighbor,) drove it to the shop, and I ran ahead of him and checked intersections for safety; it was a rather comical sight.
