Moonlight Movies

June 3 and 10

A classic movie is shown outdoors under the stars in Jacksonville Beach.  Visitors bring picnic blankets and baskets, lawn chairs and pets to really make an evening out of it.  Vendors set up to sell food and beverages, as well as there is a kids’ entertainment zone for families.  Event is free.  Screenings begin at 9 p.m.

Movies in the Park

Downtown Jacksonville’s series is returning to historic Treaty Oak Park Fridays in the spring. Hosted by Downtown Vision, Inc. and JaxParks, the series features four family-friendly movies shown under the stars, each beginning at dusk (around 8 p.m.) on the land that once served as the setting for numerous silent films. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic dinners ordered “to-go” from one of the many Downtown restaurants. Music and kids lawn games will keep moviegoers busy before each show. Vendors will also sell concessions onsite. Movie: The Wizard of Oz.

Pickett to be Held at Rutledge Pearson Elementary

The Parents and supporters of the students of Rutledge Pearson Elementary will be holding a protest in front of the school located at 4346 roanoke blvd on today Feburary 2, 2011 at 10am. The students at Rutledge Pearson can  not read, write or do math proficently. The parents are not allowed to come to the school and voulnteer. The principal at this school Debra Crotty has deniedspme parents the opportunity to help our children. When asked why Mrs Crotty response is that she has the right to decide who can come to her school. The board of education has given her the authority. The concerned taxpayers and parents of this school are tired of being denied access to this campus and being treated with disrespect.

Jacksonville Public Library Offers Student Financial Aid Workshops

The Jacksonville Public Library, in partnership with the Florida Department of Education Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA), will present, “Figuring Out FAFSA,” a free session offering a thorough explanation of the college financial aid application process, including tips for filling out forms.

I-10/I-95 interchange reconstruction project

Lanes and ramps will be closed nightly at various locations within the project limits from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Monday, January 17 through Friday, January 21.  Detour signs will be posted. All work should be finished in early 2011.
