City Kidz Food Science Educational Laboratory in downtown Jacksonville is hosting a city-wide sensory taste test sampling of their newly formulated Viva Vanilla Kosher Premium Ice Cream.  Viva Vanilla is formulated by Teens from Stanton College Prep, which is voted by Newsweek Magazine as the third public school in the nation, Darnell Cookman, the High School of Medical Arts, and James Weldon Johnson Middle School.

Signs-N-Motion, a Jacksonville-based sign design and development company, is hosting a golf tournament on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Windsor Parke Golf Club in an effort to raise funds to save high school golf in Duval County.

Education budget cuts recently approved by the State of Florida will likely mean the end of several sports in Duval County schools, including golf, cross country, lacrosse, and several others, according to the chairman of the Duval County School Board. The county must raise $70,000.00 by August 1st in order to take high school golf off the chopping block.

Father's Day Pet Adoption Specials at Animal Care & Protective Services

In honor of all the great dads across Jacksonville, the city's Animal Care & Protective Services Division is offering pet adoption specials for male dogs and cats throughout June. All male pets will be available for adoption for only $20, which covers the license fee.  That could mean a savings of up to $80 off regular adoption fees.  All animals adopted from Animal Care & Protective Services have been screened for heartworms, spayed/neutered, microchipped and given an initial checkup and shots, including the rabies vaccine.

License-free Saltwater Fishing Father's Day Weekend

Father’s Day is just around the corner, and one great way to celebrate is by planning a fishing trip off of the waters of Florida.  So if it has been awhile since you last wet a hook, or if it is something you’ve always wanted to try, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has provided a great opportunity to get dads and their families out on the water. You won’t need a saltwater fishing license anywhere in Florida during the weekend of June 18-19.

The Jacksonville RollerGirls (JRG) presents a Florida duel! JRG home team River City Rat Pack will battle the Lakeland Derby Dames followed by JRG’s home team First Coast Fatales vs. Ocala Cannibals. A portion of proceeds will go to benefit the Girl Power 2 Cure foundation to research Rett Syndrome, a neurological disorder that affects only girls. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the first bout will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the second at 7:30. Tickets are $10.00 in advance or $12.00 at the door.
