Survivor Speak-Out & Art Show Tonight at 6:00 PM

The fight to end sexual violence in northeast Florida will take center stage in Jacksonville for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).

Survivors of sexual assault will be speaking about their experiences, struggles and triumphs in an environment that we hope will foster the courage for other victims to speak out as well. Come be a part of this celebration of personal strength and help create a place where survivors can tell their stories without fear, shame or judgment. Jacksonville Men's Chorus performing & spoken word artists delivering their lyrical works of art! Light refreshments.

Walk to Cure Diabetes is this Saturday

More than 5,000 walkers will participate in the Annual Walk to Cure Diabetes benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) North Florida Chapter on Saturday, April 9th at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds. The local chapter’s goal is to generate $575,000 for research of type 1 diabetes and its complications. This year’s Walk presented by Vistakon, CSX, Lender Processing Services (LPS) and the GATE Foundation, has festivities planned to begin at 8 a.m. with the D-Line of the Jacksonville Jaguars leading walkers out of the Fairgrounds onto Bay Street for the three mile walk official beginning at 9 a.m.

A Community Speak-Out is scheduled for Tuesday, April 5 at 10 a.m. in HEMMING PLAZA in downtown Jacksonville. IN THE EVENT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE EVENT WILL BE HELD NEXT DOOR, DIRECTLY INSIDE CITY HALL.

The Jacksonville RollerGirls (JRG) presents Jacksoville’s first professional WFTDA roller derby bout.  JRG home team River City Rat Pack will battle Hard Knox Rollergirls “B” Team, following with JRG’s all-star New Jax City Rollers skating against Hard Knox Rollergirls “A” team. With the UNF Arena able to hold thousands of fans, this will undoubtedly be JRG’s biggest and most exciting bout to date. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the first bout will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the second at 7:30. Tickets are $10.00 in advance or $12.00 at the door. An event, called the Great Cloth Diaper Change 2011, already creating a buzz not only in North America, but all over the world, will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2011 in locations all around the globe. Gleeks everywhere are busy making summer plans as “Glee” star and Mercury Records artist Matthew Morrison announced today a major summer tour that will feature songs from his forthcoming album along with many of the Glee fan favorites. In tribute to the great glee clubs across the country, the tour (in conjunction with the VH1 Save The Music Foundation) will offer regional glee clubs the chance to compete for the ‘opening act’ performance slot. The VH1 Save The Music Foundation which is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring instrumental music education programs in our nation’s schools is a proud partner in the competition and entries can be submitted at www.matthewmorrison.com/gleeclubcontest.

Adventure Landing Jacksonville Beach opened Shipwreck Island Waterpark for the 2011 season March 25, remaining open weekends through May 14, when the park re-opens daily for the season.  The park features four major water slides, Lil’ St. Johns River for leisurely tubing, Kiddie’s Cove for tots, Pirate’s Play Village, Wave Pool and other attractions.
