Innovative Internships Open Job Opportunities For Floridians Overcoming Mental Illness

Floridians who have been treated for mental illnesses will have the opportunity to be employed by private businesses under a new partnership between the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Florida Department of Education’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR).


Twenty-five paid internships will be available within the next few months for persons who are ready to go to work as part of their treatment and recovery from serious mental illnesses. Typically the unemployment rate of adults with significant mental health issues is extremely high – around 80 percent.

The Save Our Sports In Duval County Campaign is designed to raise the funds needed to re-implement the high school sports that have been cut due to budget constraints by the Duval County Public School (DCPS) system for the next school year.

On June 29, Sports Talk Radio 1010XL in partnership with DCPS, and several local sports organizations will be holding a telethon to solicit donations to save the twelve high school sports that have been cut - boys and girls junior varsity soccer, boys and girls lacrosse, boys and girls tennis, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls golf, wrestling, and slow pitch softball.

A full day of tennis play and exhibitions are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at the San Jose Country Club when Jacksonville-area former touring ATP pros Brian Gottfried, Todd Martin and MaliVai Washington and Amer Delic, a Wolfson High School tennis standout and current touring ATP pro, donate their time in a fundraising effort to “Save Jax High School Tennis.”

Oscar, who resides on the east 400 block of 3rd Street will be our July 23rd recipient of Preservation SOSs Make it Happen Project.  Oscar was a Springfield resident prior to our neighborhood being designated as historic.  He purchased his humble home on E. 3rd in the early 80s and has resided there for nearly 30 years.
