Jaguars Granted 24-hour Extension for Raiders Game

The Jaguars have requested and been granted a 24-hour extension to the NFL blackout deadline, which is 1:00 p.m. today for Sunday’s home game against the Oakland Raiders. The team has until 1:00 p.m. Friday to reach the blackout threshold in order for the game to be televised locally. There are approximately 1,700 tickets remaining to reach the blackout threshold.

Winn-Dixie Water Provides 7 Truckloads of Toys for Marines' Toys for Tots

Seven trucks were loaded with toys at the grocer’s Jacksonville warehouse for the Marines.  The toys were purchased through the sales of specially-packaged bottled water.  Ten cents from every 24-pack of bottled water sold was donated to purchase toys for the Marines.  The 24-packs of bottled water sell for $3.69 and are available in all of the Winn-Dixie’s 485 stores.

Art on the Go

First Coast families are invited to tap into their creative sides at JaxParks’ next Arts on the Go event. This free art event offers hands-on activities including drawing, painting and making crafts. Art instructors will be on hand to assist participants. Each person will leave with a personally created masterpiece to take home to display and enjoy.

14th Annual Festival of Lights 5k and 1 Mile Family Fun Run

It is time once again to lace up the jingle bells on your running shoes and get ready for the 14th Annual Festival of Lights 5k and 1 Mile Family Fun Run sponsored by Daily Billboards.  The Children’s Miracle Network event will take place at the Baptist Outpatient Center in San Marco (1235 San Marco Boulevard) this coming Saturday, Decemeber 11, 2010 beginning with the Fun Run at 5:30 PM followed by the 5k at 6:00 PM.

“Naughty vs. Nice” features two Jacksonville RollerGirls home teams competing in the first bout followed by the all-star New Jax City Rollers taking on the men’s roller derby team, Magic City Misfits. Competition will be fierce but the ultimate goal is partnering with Toys for Tots to support children in need during the holidays. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the first bout will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the second bout following at 7:30 p.m. Bring a new, unwrapped toy worth $10 or more for complimentary entry. Tickets are $10.00 in advance or $12.00 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Skate Bomb in Jacksonville Beach, www.BrownPaperTickets.com, or from one of your local roller derby girls.

You Can Change a Child’s Life by Becoming a Foster Parent

Nearly 400 children currently live in foster homes in Duval, Nassau and Clay counties. Every week, about 20 children enter child welfare in the tri-county area. These children are removed from their homes for a planned, temporary period of time.

Some are placed with relatives, some are placed in group homes, and many are placed in foster homes where they will be cared for by loving, nurturing and supportive foster parents.
