FNFCG CARAVAN to the Clara White Mission Training Center & Garden

On Saturday, May 14th 2011, Clara White Mission Training Center & Garden will open its doors to the public and community gardeners. All are invited to come and tour the LaVilla Organic Garden and Clara White Mission Training Center.  Enjoy a tasting from the gardens provided by the Clara White Culinary Arts center.

The Clara White Mission has helped to rebuild lives to low-income residents in Jacksonville for over 107 years. Through the Mission’s job training programs in Culinary Arts, over 500 formerly homeless/veterans have made the transition from living on the streets to permanent housing, to becoming gainfully employed in the food industry. Since 2003, the mission has operated as a one-stop community development center designed to support workforce development, through it’s training component in Culinary Arts and Gardening. The Culinary Art training was designed for enrolled students to give back while training, serving and preparing meals to over 400 homeless, 7 days a week at the Clara White Mission.

The school strategically linked need with service in partnership with UNF(Community Base Transformational Opportunity) to develop an organic garden, to introduce students to how to grow fresh vegetables and herbs. Recently, the mission’s Culinary Arts Training & Garden program was recognized by Al Roker, Anchor, NBC “Today Show” for the success of best practices, innovation and cost effective approach of job training and job placement in culinary arts.

We invite you to join the Caravan and experience our history and training in the historic LaVilla Organic Garden!

Food for Today. Skills for Life.

All community gardeners are encouraged to attend and meet their gardening brethren!
