Legally Blonde The Musical Coming to Jax Jan. 16th

LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL will begin performances at Jacksonville’s Times Union Center’s Moran Theater on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 and will play through Sunday, January 16, 2011. Tickets go on sale Sunday, November 7, 2010.

Richard Chamberlain "Twenty-five Years, a Retrospective" Opens Nov. 4th

Episcopal High School faculty member Richard N. Chamberlain, a lifetime painter and teacher, will be exhibiting more than 50 pieces of his work in a show that opens Thursday, November 4 at the School’s Munnerlyn Center for Worship and Fine Arts. “Twenty-five Years, a Retrospective,” Features Salt Prints, Portraits and Monochrome Transparencies.

Kickbacks Gastropub Decmber 13th Beer Dinner Features Swamphead Brewing

Kickbacks Gastropub hosts beer dinner with Swamphead Brewing from Gainesville Monday, December 13th. 

The owner of Swamphead Brewing will be in attendance, along with the brew master.  The event will also feature three guest chefs, as well as three guest brewers each contributing a beer and a course.

Jacksonville Public Library Branch Celebrates 80th Anniversary

Branch is oldest continually-used library building in system

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Nov. 3, 2010 – The Jacksonville Public Library will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Willowbranch Branch Library with activities for all ages. Jacksonville City Councilman Michael Corrigan will serve as the keynote speaker for the program commemorating the opening of the library in 1930 and its importance to the community.

Former and current residents are invited to share stories about Willowbranch and the neighborhood after the formal program in the library. Adults and teens will have the opportunity to play circa1930 parlor games while children can enjoy facepainting, art and crafts and other activities. Friends of the Willowbranch Library is sponsoring the celebration. 

 

Hubbard House Announces Winner in Youth Art Contest

Mariah Blanton, an 8-year-old from Glen St. Mary, Florida, is the grand prize winner in Hubbard House’s first-ever Domestic Violence Awareness Month Youth Art Contest. She will receive a party for 10 at Jungle Quest, an indoor facility for kids that offers rock climbing, zip lines, tree houses and more.

MOSH: Bryan-Gooding Planetarium, Nov. 11

The wait is almost over!  The Grand Opening Celebration of the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium is set for November 11th through 14th.  The opening will begin a new chapter in the Museum of Science & History’s 59-year history of space science programming.  

Convention at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center, Nov. 11th

SMG Jacksonville announced that The American Trakehner Association will hold its annual convention at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center for the first time in its 36-year history. Brinkman will be there with her horses and her family, encouraging young breeders to continue the Trakehner legacy. She has organized an exciting exhibition of horses for Friday evening to showcase the talented Trakehner horse.  The breed, which has come back from near extinction after World War II, has produced successful horses, such as the recent World Equestrian Games dressage gold medalist, Moorland’s Totilas, as well as U.S. Olympic team equestrian medalists Abdullah, Peron and Windfall. Windfall will perform in an exhibition during this convention.
