City of Jacksonville Presents Commemorative Poster for 2011 Jacksonville Jazz Festival

The City of Jacksonville is proud to present the commemorative poster for the 2011 Jacksonville Jazz Festival.  Each year, the City of Jacksonville chooses original artwork that is converted into the commemorative poster and as well as other promotional pieces. More than 140 entries were received for consideration.

This year’s painting, “Drop’n the Groove,” was created by local artist Pamela Miller who uses bright, rich and bold colors to interpret music through shapes in a groovy place surrounded by palm trees and blue skies. Funky, flowing shapes hit the notes in this abstract painting.

Miller has been creating artwork since she was a child. By the time she reached high school she had received multiple awards for her artwork. She worked as a freelance artist creating backdrops for stage productions and family portraits while expanding more mediums, styles and techniques. She was hired in 1987 by the United States Postal Service in the graphics department. In 1991, she began creating murals in post office facilities and lobbies. After leaving the Postal Service, Miller published many of her own prints, designed book covers, calendars and murals. She opened two art galleries in Los Angeles where she sold her art and featured other artists’ work as well. A 30-foot mural she created was donated to the Argyle Branch Library where it is on display in the children’s department.

The poster is available for purchase for $40 (signed and numbered) or $25 for an unsigned copy.  After the festival, the cost will be $60 (signed and numbered) or $45 unsigned.  A limited number of signed posters are available. Jacksonville Jazz Festival posters may be purchased online at jaxjazzfest.com or at the City of Jacksonville Office of Special Events at 117 W. Duval Street, suite 280. During the festival, posters will also be sold at the official Jacksonville Jazz Festival Merchandise Store.
