Workshop to Discuss an Estimated $224 Million Improvement Project Near Fuller Warren Bridge

The workshop is Tuesday, November 9 at the Duval County School Board, 1701 Prudential Drive in Jacksonville. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and public comments will begin at 6:30 p.m. A formal presentation will not be made but the public is encouraged to drop by between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. to view the latest plans and discuss the project with FDOT staff.

As part of the project, various improvements will be made including replacement of the Overland Bridge, a section of I-95 overpass that carries approximately 155,000 vehicles a day over Hendricks, King and Montana avenues. A new parallel roadway would also be built that would separate local traffic from through traffic and would include a new interchange at Atlantic Boulevard.

FDOT held a public hearing May 13 to discuss the addition of noise walls and also a public hearing in April 2009 to discuss the Overland Bridge replacement. The bridge structure is being replaced due to structural deterioration which causes the need for frequent repairs.

The proposed changes will require additional property needed for the improvements so FDOT Right-of-Way staff will be on hand at Tuesday’s workshop to address questions.

Currently, construction is scheduled to begin in 2012 and the property acquisition is set to begin in the Spring of 2011. Design is underway at this time.
